Springtime Love | Flathead Lake, Montana

Some shoots will just stay with you for a lifetime, and this was one of them. We photographed this amazing styled shoot on the day my Nana lost a hard battle to cancer, so when I look at these images, I get an over whelming sense of peace and a tinge of pain. Not to be cheesy, but I believe we had the prettiest Spring day you could ask for in Montana; a small miracle. The sun shone bright through the clouds and lit up the Swan range, just as we were hoping for, and we basked in its glory. For a short part of the year there's a sandy beach on Flathead Lake, and like the blooms we used, we took inspiration in their fleeting beauty.

We're so honored to have this shoot featured in Trendy Bride Magazine!! You can pick up a copy at your local Barnes and Noble, or right here!

Thank you a million times over to our favorite crew!

Flathead Lake Nautical Inspiration

"Every summer, people from around the world flock to our little Flathead Valley in northern Montana. Mostly to see the majestic Glacier National Park, but also for Flathead Lake. Growing up here we were inspired by the beauty of the lake, it's crystal clear water, surrounded by towering mountains, the waving white sails. Working with Cara Finch Lard from Goldfinch EVENTS & DESIGN, we wanted to take a different approach to this shoot from the typical "Montana" inspiration. When most people think Montana, they picture rustic, cowboy, big red barns etc. But since Flathead Lake is the largest natural body of water west of the Mississippi River, for me it feels a little like living near the coast.

There's something incredibly romantic about two people vowing their love for each other on the cliffs of Flathead Lake, watching sailboats drift in front of the mountains. We went with an underlying nautical beach theme to bring an unexpected perspective to the Flathead Valley. We were inspired by the colors of the sunset on the water in the way we chose navy, soft white, gold and blush. We kept the wardrobe modern and fresh, letting the gold sequins dazzle in the sunlight against crisp navy blue linen. The all-white floral from Mum's Flowers with garden roses and white anemones with navy blue centers kept the tablescape romantic and soft, offsetting the cragginess of the rocks.

Tyler Thorney from One Ten and One Third illustrated the paper goods, which we then gold leafed to add the modern element. We kept the cake simple drawing inspiration from the seashell topper and gold-leafed frosting. As we shot into the last bit of sunset we toasted with our gold leafed champagne flutes to the beauty of Flathead Lake."

Huge thanks to Wedding Chicks for featuring this shoot!

Amy and Corry

It's been a long time coming. A new blog post!! We've been working harder than ever and are so excited to share this wonderful couple's wedding! We first met Amy and Corry in Sacramento, when they had just moved there from LA and we jut happen to be there visiting and shooting a wedding. The engagement session was a blast and I knew 100% that their wedding was going to be amazing. Well, it was. Nothing beats a wedding on Flathead Lake. Especially the Bigfork side since the sunset faces the party and fills the air with magic. It was seriously a blast being with these two love birds, getting to know their family, and ending the night with a surprise fireworks show on the lake. At one point Amy told me she wasn't good at this whole being a bride thing. I'd have to disagree. I was OBSESSED with her dress, her flowers, Corry's suit, the whole thing. LOVE.

Their First Look was priceless and well worth it. Nerves were running high and the second Amy and Corry saw each other all was good again. I think I teared up, but that seriously wouldn't be any surprise, haha!
